Concept

L’Effervescence is a workshop aiming to gather 15 early-career physicists, mostly (but not exclusively) from the fields of quantum optics and information, to work together on research problems in a friendly and cooperative environment. This event will be entirely organized and shaped by the participants themselves, from the definition of the research problems to the cooking.

Scientific content

Upon application, the participant will be required to provide a research problem they would like to investigate, as well as a research publication in relation with this problem. In the first half of the workshop, each participant will be asked to give a 1h-1h30 mini-lecture to introduce her or his project. The participants will then discuss together to choose which projects they want to work on the most. In the second half of the event, people will gather in small groups to work on the problems so defined. This format is intended to allow people to discover new topics and ideas through active research, and to initiate longer-term collaborations.

Scope of the workshop and application

The event is mostly aimed at early-career physicists (senior PhDs and postdocs) working in the domains of quantum optics, information and foundations (to get an idea of the problems the organizers will present, for instance, you can take a look at the Application tab). However, anyone is free to apply, and to submit problems which do not fall directly in this range. If they are more applications than positions, the organizers will select the participant based on their scientific applications.

Venue

The event will take place in a family house in the village of Essômes-sur-Marne, located in the Champagne region in France. The house, its large garden, and the walking paths in the surrounding vineyards will provide a relaxing and friendly atmosphere for scientific exchanges. A visit in the neighbouring city of Reims will also be organized in the course of the workshop.

Why the name?

L’Effervescence is a reference both to the Champagne region, and the intellectual activity which we hope the discussions will generate!

Organizers and support

This workshop is organized by Louis Garbe (Technische Universität Wien), Thibaut Lacroix (Sorbonne Université and University of St-Andrews) and Nicolas Fabre (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). It is supported by the Basic Research Community for Physics (BRCP). If you have any question, please contact us at effervescence22@sciencesconf.org.
